Bio: My name is Bailey, I am an older girl by still full of life! My last parents didn't want me because I "shed" too much; but what Rottie doesn't shed? I love to talk to my foster parents and foster kids (they are older and they don't play on me like I am a jungle gym). My likes are to play with all kinds of toys, especially racquetballs; go for walks, and car rides; oh and I just absolutely love CHEESE! I think cats are fascinating, I like to play with them but most of them don't understand that they think I am trying to chase them; but you see when I run up to them to play they run away and won’t play with me. There are some that are used to me and when I run up to them they headbutt me; I am still trying to figure that out! I know when its dinner time and I like to remind my foster parents of this. they are trying to teach me (like they can teach an old dog something new right?) how to use a doggie door; I let them think they are making progress with me coming in through it by myself but I still make them open the door for me to go out! I would prefer a home with just adults but I can accept a home with older children in it; you know the ones that know that a dog is not a play toy to climb on and pull at, but to play with and take for walks and car rides to the beach! Did I mention that I love to talk and I am very vocal? Well I am; and I am still trying to figure out what this "inside voice" is that my foster parents keep telling me about!

Description:

Greetings everyone! Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jilli. Fostermom calls me Jillibean and SillyJilli. I am a fun loving, gentle lady, and I DO like to think of myself as a lady. I am clean, not destructive, do not take things not given to me and foster mom says I am rather prissy! When I first came to foster mom, I was a bit shy and hated to go in the car. Now, I love to go in the car and hate being left behind!!! I also warm up to people more quickly now. I also must make sure proper attention is given to me when visitors come, I certainly can't let the other dogs get all the attention! I looooooooove to run outside and chase the squirrels. The deer come up in our front and backyard, it just makes me silly I can't get out of the fence to chase them. Mom says that is the only time I seem to forget my name. I do have a high prey drive, so a home with cats or small dogs probably isn't the best idea. However, I must say in my behalf, mom brought a new mastiff baby in to our house 2 months ago, he was little when he arrived, and I become his surrogate mom. I just love him, and I protect him from the other Rottweiler and Whippet. I let them know I am on guard when they are near my *baby*! Mom said she has never seen such a patient lady dog with a puppy! She is so impressed with me, but remember, I AM a lady! I take my job as puppy mom very seriously. I am agreeable with the other dogs in the house, we live together as a happy family.

Mom said I may not be recommended to a house with small children. My human foster dad died last summer, soooo many military people in uniforms and other people mom knew were in and out of my house for a solid week and half, mom's eyes were always wet, and I wanted to comfort her, I didn't like all these people in and out and hugging *MY* mom. I would always put myself between them and mom, in a ladylike manner of course. She would hold Blei and I at night, and cry in our fur, I would press close to her and let her know I was there to help her and I would gently lick her tears. She'd call me her Angel Jilli and tell me how sensitive and kind I was. The little nephews made me nervous and I didn't like them touching me. Mom let me escape safely to her bedroom. However, mom's dog friend Miss Kim has a 12 yo son I think is wonderful, but he is very doggie savvy. My mom thinks I am wonderful, and she has just raved on my progress of hating car rides to loving them, soliciting pets from people that come in my house rather than hiding anymore, and most of all, my good sense in raising a mastiff puppy. My mom will look up sometimes, and catches me staring at her with total love and adoration in my eyes, (mom's words), then she comes over and kisses me on the head. Ahhhhhhh, life is good, but would be even better if I had my very own forever and ever mom. Jilli

Chance Bio:

Hi, my name is Chance. I was found all tied up and my back leg had to be removed because of it. I’m not sad though because now I’m free to run around! I am a very happy, energetic guy and I love my foster family. They have been teaching me things that I never knew before – like where to relieve myself, how to behave around people or other doggies and that I have to sit to get my food. I guess the people I was with before never really wanted to train me but I very much enjoy learning! My foster family always laughs because my nubby tail is always wagging but I’m just so happy that I can’t help myself. I live with a male Rottweiler and a female. Hey, I also live with a little human girl, she’s a little over 1 year old and I do great with her. Since I’m energetic, my family makes sure I play nicely. My first foster family that helped me to get well, they also had cats but I barked at them and got too excited so they say that I shouldn’t be in a home that has cats. I am UTD on all my shots, neutered and heartworm negative. SSRR treatment me for heartworms, so I don’t have them anymore! I’m housebroken and know how to use a doggie door too! Anyway, I hope to someday find a forever home with someone who will continue with my training and keep me exercised. I am a fast learner and am very eager to please!

Description:

Hi, My name is Napolean – Nappy for short! I’m a great boy looking for a wonderful home. I love to play, and I love to be with my humans. I do have a lot of energy, after all, I’m still an energentic, young guy. I’m looking for a home that understands the needs of a young male Rottweiler. I need direction and guidance. They say I need to continue my obedience training, but I think I’m great. However, I would probably listen because my foster mom knows what is best for me.

I should go to a home with kids that are at least 12 years of age or old. I’m an active boy and sometimes I knock the young kids over. I don’t mean too, but I’m excited to play. I would love an active family, someone to play with. And maybe another four-legged buddy to play with. When I was young, I lived with a female Rottweiler and a kitty. The kitty was OK, but I haven’t been around one in a long time, so I’m not sure how I would do now.

I am UTD on all my shots and neutered, so I’m ready to go! If you are interested in a young guy to add to your family I’m your guy. Just contact my foster mom

rottbird7@yahoo.com and she will tell you all about me.

Good_with_other_animals: Yes, a bit shy at firsts
rotti_months: 9
rotti_year: 2009
Bio: My name is Stormy and foster mom says I am one sweet and beautiful girl. I love everyone once I get to know you but introductions should be slow and positive. There is a reason I feel the way I do and it has to do with my past. My Mom and Dad were abandoned and left in a back yard to survive on their own. I was told that nice people would throw food to them but nobody knew that my Mom was going to have puppies. A kind lady took my Mom and Dad but when we were born we did not get the proper socialization and training for our breed until I went to SSRR at 8 months old. I came to live with my foster mom when I was 8 months old; it was a very scary trip from TX to TN meeting all the new people but everyone loved me and were very patient. I now live with foster brothers and sisters. I really do not care for two little yappy dachshunds that recently came here but the resident dachshunds are just fine. My two best buddies are my two Rottweiler foster brothers, they can play with me and I don’t have to worry about hurting them because of my size. Speaking of size, I’m a pretty nice size girl for my age. I am about 75lbs and still developing. I have been spayed, an up to date on all my shots and am fortunate to not have those nasty heartworms I heard about. Did you know Rotties are born with tails and in Europe they can no longer be docked (or cut off)? Well, I am of the European fashion because I have my beautiful full tail! I have a large crate I sleep in at night and stay in during the day when foster mom is not home. I eat in my crate because I’m afraid those other dogs want to take my food and I do not like that. I love my kong and mom always puts my kibble in it when I eat so it is ‘sorta’ like my dessert … kongs are GREAT! I love to go for walks on a leash and also car rides; it is a little scary at times because I still am not sure of new things but the more I go and receive positive attention the easier it is getting. I recently heard my sister MEK found a new home and is doing soooo well and I hope you will consider me as a new member of your family so I can have my own home too! I would be great as your only dog or I would do great with other dogs my own size. Please contact my foster mom at rotownersrus@yahoo.com so she can answer any questions you have and send more of my gorgeous pictures!

Name: Beau (male :: 11 months :: Memphis, Tn)

OK with Cats: yes, see below

OK with Dogs: yes, see below

Foster Email: tara@tararcampbell.com

Description:
Hi, my name is BEAU ! I am a male PUPPY that is approximately 11 months old.
Ok people, if you do not have experience with a rottie puppy , stop reading. I need someone who is going to be my parent and my leader. Like all little furry 4-legged rottie children, I need a teacher and someone who can match my energy level. If you do not like to go for walks (running is fun too), I am not your match.
I love being a puppy and my manners are pretty good. If someone does not force me to use my manners, my puppy mind wanders and I do what I want. I live with 2 older dogs and one young dog and get along great with everyone. My foster parents are the alpha but I also listen to the children who are 4 and 7 years old. I started off being chained to a tree, living outside in the cold. It was 13 degrees outside and I had not eaten in days and needed immediate medical care. A lady from the Tennessee Human Society saved my life and called SSRR. I have seen a couple of homes since but my most stable home has been at my SSRR foster home. My foster mom promises that someday I will be in a home with an experienced rottweiler family forever. I really like my foster mom and my foster home is so much fun! I get to play with other dogs and would love to be at a home with someone who can exercise me daily and/or has another dog or children. My foster mom says she loves to save Rottweilers and that someone will read my bio and have just as much unconditional love for me as a puppy, as I do for them! I am very loveable and high energy.
I am potty trained, sleep in a large crate during nap time and at night. I am contained with the other dogs certain areas of the house since I am a puppy. I am still in the mouthing stage and to satisfy my chewing desire, I have lots of bones! I understand human words like: want to go outside, inside, sit, no, bad, good, no jump, no bite, walk, cookies. I'm still getting used to bath time. I am not very good on a leash but I'm learning. I am a good listener if you are an alpha! I can play chase with other dogs but catching a ball is still a work in progress. That requires eye, mouth and paw coordination! I like to play tug-a-war with another dog but not allowed to play this game with humans.
I live with little children and other dogs (both male and female). I get along with cats and small and large dogs. I love everyone I meet. I am neutered and up-to-date on my vaccinations. And I don't have heartworms either. Check out my picture, I'm so handsome! I have a tail and my foster mom says is it super cute and strong. Please consider me as your life long companion. Teach me everything you know, because I am just a puppy looking to be with a forever home. I promise to always be by your side and give you unconditional love.
Experienced puppy rottweiler owners who make the time and have energy to teach me is a must. Teach me your ways and I will follow.

Each individual considering adoption from another individual should always proceed with caution and utilize responsible adoption procedures, including the following:

1.  Proceed with their own temperament evaluation with the assistance of a qualified professional.

2.  Request verification from the caregiver of current vaccination records, including rabies, proof of heartworm status and preventative use, verification of spay/neuter and stated bite history, if any; and,

SSRR merely provides web space to assist caregivers in finding suitable new homes and to assist potential adopters in locating a suitable Rottweiler. SSRR will not be held liable for any dog's actions, nor does it provide any warranty regarding listed dogs' health or temperament.

Please keep in mind that SSRR Independent Adoptions is NOT a dog shelter. This forum merely provides additional web exposure for dogs in need in order to increase their chance of finding a suitable home. Caregivers are entirely responsible for the placement of the dog(s). Potential adopters are entirely responsible for the verification of caregivers' claims.

The Service: SSRR provides this web space to assist Rottweiler caregivers in finding suitable new homes and to assist potential adopters in locating a suitable Rottweiler. This forum merely provides additional web exposure for dog in need in order to increase its chance of finding a suitable home. Caregivers are entirely responsible for the placement of the dog(s) listed with us.

The Process: SSRR volunteers manage this process in their free time. Once an online application for a courtesy posting is sent, the Independent Adoptions (IA) volunteers review it, request additional information if needed, and prepare the IA listing for uploading to the website. Adoption applications for a particular dog will be forwarded to that dog's contact person.

Additionally, SSRR volunteers may recommend alternatives to re-homing the Rottweiler, and/or may discuss potential solutions for correcting unwanted behavior that resulted in the decision to re-home the Rottweiler.

SSRR volunteers do not make phone calls to caregivers. Communication is provided over the internet. It is recommended that you keep your e-mail address current so that we can effectively get in touch with you to ensure those who are interested in your dog(s) receive a prompt response. SSRR volunteers will send you completed adoption applications from applicants via e-mail. Our observations, concerns and recommendations may accompany the forwarded adoption application.

Hold Harmless: SSRR and SSRR volunteers dedicating their time to Independent Adoptions are not responsible for dogs displayed on the IA section of this website, nor for whether any dog is adopted or what may happen thereafter. SSRR has not had direct contact with any of the IA dogs, nor has SSRR met with anyone interested in adopting an IA dog.

Dog's Temperament: Rottweilers can and do make excellent pets. However, it is possible that some of them display undesirable traits. Examples of undesirable behavior include human aggression, shyness and instability. Reasons for such behaviors may include poor breeding, previous irresponsible ownership, and abusive handling of the dog. Animals displaying undesirable behavior shall not be made available for adoption before successful completion of a strict, professionally supervised rehabilitation program.

Posting Requirements: Dogs posted must be spayed or neutered without exception. All caregivers must be able to provide proof of altered status, vaccinations, rabies shot and heartworm status upon request by SSRR and by the potential adopter.

Shelters: Shelter representatives will provide proof of the shelter's spay/neuter policy. SSRR only posts dogs that will be spayed/neutered prior to leaving the shelter or by the adopter within 30 days of the adoption.

Screening Homes: We also strongly recommend that IA caretakers thoroughly screen adoption applicants. If possible, meet the applicant, contact their references, and do a strict home check before the dog is adopted into a home.

Photos: We recommend IA caretakers post a picture of the dog being placed. The picture is the first thing people notice when they visit our pages. If the dog has no picture or a poor picture, visitors may not take the time to read the description and will move on to another dog. A good picture can make the difference between a dog who receives a lot of inquiries and one who doesn't.

Updates: Once a dog is posted to the IA site, caregivers will be required to send a monthly update on the status of the dog. A reminder will be sent out and a response must be received within two weeks. Without a response, we will assume that our assistance is no longer needed, and the IA dog will removed from our site.

Thank you for your interest in utilizing the SSRR Independent Adoptions site and process. Good luck!

To submit your dog for inclusion on our Independent Adoption, please complete our online request form.

As I work all day, care for the kids and dog mainly go to my wife, and the kids come first, leaving our our dog Bailey, who craves attention, without the attention she needs and deserves. Biography: Little Girl is a special needs 2 year old Rottie and has such a sad story. Starving, she was saved just moments from death at a kill shelter, and it appears she has had a very, very tough life. She has symptoms of being severly abused, and is only adoptable to experienced Rottie or former abuse owners. Though she has had difficulty in trusting humans, she is coming around nicely. Now that she is learning trust, she is attending training classes. Currently she is responding to some basic commands. It is recommended that the adopter continue her training to build her trust. She is learning also, that petting and behind the ear scratching is a very nice relaxing thing. I am sure she did not experience much love in her former life. Little Girl is also undergoing Heartworm treatment and doing very well. Little Girl will not be a large Rottie, her max weight may be around 70lbs, and she is a small build. Perfect for inside and lounging at your feet! She is very sweet, waggs her tail often, and will gently take treats from your hand. She truly wants to please you! Though she loves to play with other dogs, she would do best in a single dog home, or a home with a dominant male. She is good with cats. She walks well on a leash, and is completly crate trained and potty trained. She will be a wonderful dog, but it will be a long road due to her tormented past. Won't someone make her a happy forever home and finally teach her what love really is? Please email ket898@yahoo.com for an application.

She was treated for heartworms with an Immiticide protocol in Spring of 2009. She prefers to be inside and is kennel trained. She is a very sweet, quiet, low energy dog. Foster Email: scotthorton@centurytel.net

Description:

Adoption fee: $50 plus transport fee

Carl was a nervous wreck when first brought into the shelter but he has really come out of his shell at the foster home. He is a big baby...all he wants is to be loved on! He loves to play with kids and gets along fine with other dogs. He is a beautiful dog with a super sweet personality. Unfortunately because of his breed, his long stay at the shelter and his heartworm positive status (no signs) he is scheduled to be euthanized. I am desperately trying to keep this from happening...Carl is a wonderful dog and deserves his own family.

I rescued Cleo along with her three siblings. They were in poor condition, emaciated, wet, cold, and hungry. I brought them home, contacted my local humane society, and they were on their way to the Vet. After months of proper care, Cleo is in good health, has a shining coat, wagging tail, and gives LOTS of kisses. Cleo loves to go for walks and play with her sister, Sheba. She has shown no aggressive behavior. She can sit on command but still jumps up on me for attention. I'm working on that. Cleo is a wonderful dog with lots and lots of love to give. She is still with her sister, Sheba. They are two of a kind.......ADORABLE!!!!!!! Cleo passed a temperament test and she has no medical issues. She is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed.

My life hasn't been easy. I've been abandoned and on my own. I'm not a pup anymore, so I feel very fortunate to have been rescued from under a deck where I had taken shelter. Despite my earlier misfortunes I still think people are good, and I hope one of them (or a whole family of them) will adopt me.

Description:

Adoption fee: $175

My name is Wilson, I am a healthy, handsome and happy 3-1/2 year old, 95 pound Rottweiler. I was found after Hurricane Wilma tied to a fence with my sister and spent some time in a shelter in Hialeah, FL waiting to be rescued. I was adopted from Gulf Stream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue in the Spring of 2006 when I was 11 months old and moved to Charleston, SC with my new father. My father has taken good care of me for the last three years. I love to sleep in my crate at night and when my father isn't at home. My favorite hobby is playing fetch with a tennis ball, my father usually gets worn out before I do! I love to go for walks on the leash also, and play hide and seek in the house. I also enjoy car rides especially when I can stick my head out the window and enjoy the breeze. I am looking for a home without young children and where I can be the only pet. I can tell my father is very sad to have to find me a new home. He is hoping to start a family and is concerned that I will not be happy in an environment with small children. I have been in training to get familiar with other dogs and I have made some progress but my father is concerned that a home with another dog will not suit me. I love all people and I will be very happy in a new home. I am a great companion and I have been praised at length for my good manners and obedience by my father's visitors. Please look at my pictures to see how healthy, handsome and happy I am! Please contact patrick.klingemann+petfinder@gmail.com so my father can give you a better description of me over the phone. My main listing is located @ the Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue @ http://www.ggarr.org/brian.html

Name: Snickers (Male :: 1-2 Years :: Hartsdale Alabama)

OK with Cats: Unknown

OK with Dogs: With supervision

Foster Email: itsbridget@bellsouth.net

Description:

Adoption fee: $100

Can't be tied up or in a pen, loving home, home ownership preferred, home owner's insurance approval required to verify no breed restrictions, potential adopters will be carefully screened, personal and veterinary reference checks required, indoor dog, secure large fenced yard, experienced large breed/Rottweiler owner a plus, must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption.

Snickers was found sitting in a ditch. It turned out that he had been "dumped" there two days earlier. Snickers had been waiting for the owner to come back and get him. He is very friendly, and tends to become a little protective (or territorial) of his human. Snickers also becomes a little aggressive when taken to the vet's office, but he can be calmed down with a little direction. Snickers has been neutered and all shots are current. He has already been trained to calm down before he can get his food. Snickers needs an owner who has experience with larger dogs. Snickers does best around older children, larger dogs when introduced appropriately and probably would be better off not to be around cats. Snickers is a beautiful dog who wants attention and would do WELL as an ONLY PET.

Name: Sheba (Female :: 8-10 Years :: Atlanta, GA)

OK with Cats: No

OK with Dogs: Yes

Foster Email: bravo_s@bellsouth.net

Description:

Adoption fee: $50

Sheba used to be a family pet. She was a young dog when her owner had a baby. So she put Sheba outside on a chain. After some years and some animal control citations, she got her a pen. She lived there with another dog in a small space for a year. Now she is 8 to 10 years old, maybe older. Her owner does not want to take care of heranymore. A compassionate neighbor is looking for a home for her. She is in good health and has no heartworm. She like large dogs only, people and kids. She is just an old dog with a grey muzzle who wants a cozy home to live out her life. She wants love, companionship and a family. Please help her.
